Having a good oral health routine can help protect against a number of medical conditions.
It is currently National Smile Month in the UK – which runs to June 20th – but Dr Tim Bradstock-Smith, founder of the London Smile Clinic, said that maintaining good dental health is not a merely cosmetic pursuit.
“High on the list is to avoid gum disease. Gum disease can cause tooth loss, gum recession and even heart disease,” he commented.
Mr Bradstock-Smith stated that those who brush their teeth regularly are less likely to see a build-up of plaque and acid erosion.
However, he explained that that it is important not to be too vigorous with the brushing strokes as it is possible to strip away the tooth enamel and this could lead to sensitivity or gum damage.
